4巻を除く7冊となります、7巻カバーに痛みありますがそれ以外は良い状態です。 旧約聖書にあるモーセ五書の中、最初の二書「創世記」と「出エジプト記」が、この『天界の秘義』全巻の対象になります。通常の聖書講解や釈義と異なるところは、語義に解釈を加えて帰納的に分析しているのでなく、語句の背後にある隠された意味を開示している点です。
これは一口に言うと、著者自身が明言しているように、主から啓示された内的意味、または霊的意味の開示・解説です。創世記全50章、出エジプト記全40章の各章、各節、各語句、および一見些細な語順や同義語を含め、文字の自然的意味に埋もれている隠された意味を記述します。書名の『Arcana Caelestia 天界の秘義』の「秘義 arcana」には、そのような意味があります。
例えば、創世記第１章５節に、「夕となり、また朝となった」とあります。つまり朝・夕でなく、夕・朝の順に記している理由に触れて、「夕」は、暗闇、影、不信仰の状態を示し、「朝」は、光、真理認識、信仰のある状態を示すため、夕から朝にかけて、心が照らされ、暗闇に信仰の光が射してくる人間再生の過程を表すものと説明しています(本書11～12ページ)。
