ゴート札なる偽札を製造し、世界経済の裏側で暗躍していると伝えられるカリオストロ国にやってきたルパン三世（声・山田康雄）たち。そこでルパンは、カリオスト伯爵の妻にさせられようとしている王女クラリス（声・島本須美）を救うべく、活動を開始する。
『ルパン三世』劇場用アニメ映画第2作だが、宮崎駿監督の快活な演出により、従来のシリーズとは一味違った恋とロマンの冒険大活劇の傑作、というよりも今や映画史上に残る不滅のアニメーションとして世界的に親しまれている名作である。クラリスは日本アニメ界最高最大の美少女として今も誉れ高い。泥棒にしては今回何にも盗まないルパン…と思いきや、実はものすごいものを盗んでいたことが発覚するラストは、観る者の胸をキュンとさせてくれる。
