本作品は1959年に作った「危険な関係」の、ヴァディム自身によるリメイク版である。
【ストーリー】
十九世紀初頭の春。
フランス社交界にそのドン・ファンの名も高いシャルル伯爵（ジョン・フィンチ）は、世間を避けて伯母の別荘に身を寄せていた。
そしてそこにいたマチルド（シルヴィア・クリステル）の美しさにシャルルはひかれた。彼女の夫は仕事でイギリスに行っており、シャルルの作戦で彼に魅かれていく自分に気づき、おののくマチルド。
そんなある日、フローラ伯爵夫人（ナタリー・ドロン）も別荘を訪れた。シャルルとは昔なじみの彼女も又、艶然たる美貌の持ち主だ。
シャルルにパリへ帰るようすすめるフローラは、それを断わる彼が実はマチルドを愛し始めているのに気づく。
そして、それは彼のフローラに対する裏切り行為でもあったのだ…。
