ウエストコーストの洒落オヤジ、ジャック・シェルドン。本職はトランペットの彼がヴォーカルを取った本作は、タートルズの(2)やロジャー・ニコルズの(7)あたりから察するとおり、ジャズというよりポップス／ソフト・ロック的な感触。まぶしくも切ない一枚だ。 チェット・ベイカーの影に隠れてしまった感のあるウエスト・コースト・ジャズの白人トランペッター、ジャック・シェルドンの隠れた名作。独特の歌と洗練されたジャズ・サウンドが実に心地よい。ウェスト・コースト・クール・ジャズの秘密の扉、とでもいえそうな作品。チェット・ベイカーよろしくトランペット&ヴォーカルなのですが、チェットとは似ても似つかぬユーモラスな声（というかダミ声）で、何とも親しみが湧きます。カヴァー曲もいい感じで、ビートルズの「ハニー・パイ」とくれば井上 "ケニー" ケンイチですが、この人のヴァージョンも良いですねぇ〜。まるでルイ・ジョーダンのようなジャイヴ乗りでバシッと決め! ドン・セベスキーのオリジナル(4)は "CTI meets 「タイトゥン・アップ」" ？ とにかくノリノリです。ロジャー・ニコルズでお馴染みの人気曲(7)もヴェリー・グルーヴィ! こんな良いアルバム、ジャズ・ファンが聴かないなら、我々ポップ好きが今こそ評価しようではありませんか。

1931年11月30日生まれ、米・フロリダ州ジャクソンヴィル出身のトランぺッター／歌手／俳優。本名はベリル・シリル・シェルドン・ジュニア。50年代のウェストコースト・ジャズ・ムーヴメントにおいて、スタン・ケントン、アート・ペッパー、ジェリー・マリガン、カーティス・カウンスらと共演し、名を広める。ラスヴェガスのショーのバンドを経て、TVトーク番組『ザ・マーヴ・グリフィン・ショー』のバンドメンバーとして活躍。70年代はアニメ教育音楽番組『スクールハウス・ロック！』に出演し、特徴的な声で人気を博す。以降も音楽活動と俳優業を精力的に展開。
