現代ドイツ有数のクラリネット奏者&作曲家イェルク・ヴィトマン。ここでは彼が芸術監督を務めるアイルランド室内管とともに、メンデルスゾーンの2つの交響曲をメインに据え、そこに自作を挟み込むという凝ったプログラムを聴くことができる。早熟の天才メンデルスゾーンの交響曲は、通常フルサイズのオーケストラで演奏されることが多いが、“初期ロマン派の作品は室内オーケストラでアプローチすることが可能”と考えるヴィトマンは、本作でもその概念に基づき演奏。その結果、隅々まで見通しのよいサウンドと、小回りの効いたアンサンブルが得られている。2つの交響曲の橋渡しとなるヴィトマン自身の「小協奏曲」では、名手セルゲイ・ナカリャコフが参加。2012年～2014年録音。 (C)RS
