舞台はニューヨーク。元従軍カメラマン、現在はフリー報道カメラマンであるマイク・コバック。彼はニューヨーク市警に協力し、様々な事件を解決していく。主に警察とのコンビプレーで事件を解決することが多いが、時に警察が関われない事件には私立探偵としても活躍する。彼の使用するカメラはライカM3。ストーリー上、事件の犯人を追いつめるという展開を迎えるのだが、彼は一般市民のため武器らしい武器を持っていない。しかし、このカメラが彼の武器なのだ！この他、彼はカメラを鞄やラジオ、ライターやネクタイなどにも仕込んで犯行現場を激写！彼の自家用車には何と電話がついていて、事件の知らせを聞いてすぐさま現場に駆け付ける。トランクの中にはポータブル暗室が仕込んであり、すぐさま現像が可能！まさに007ジェームズ・ボンド顔負けの隠しアイテムを駆使して、事件解決にあたる！
