■イ・ジェマは、ホ・ジュンが執筆した「東医宝鑑」をもとに四象医学を確立した19世紀の医学者であり哲学者。ホジュンは膨大な東洋医学を中国漢方医学理論を借りて集大成したが、イ・ジェマは韓国固有の独創的な医学を確立したという点で、韓国医学の父と言われている。四象医学とは、人間の体質を「太陽人」「少陽人」「太陰人」「少陰人」の4つに分類し、疾病によって治療するのではなく、それぞれの体質に合った治療法と食物を提示する漢方医学を称する。100年前に現在の最先端医学に通じる四象医学を確立したイ・ジェマは果たしてどんな生涯を歩んだのか？■「太陽人イ・ジェマ」は、イ・ジェマの波乱万丈な一生と四象医学に焦点を合わせる。妾の子として生まれたイ・ジェマ(1836-1900)は、重い持病に悩まされながらも、ハンディキャップを乗り越え、官職を辞してまで四象医学の確立に人生を捧げた。1894年に執筆された「東医寿世保元」は、現在でも韓国医学の原点とされ、韓医薬博物館でも「ホ・ジュン」と並んで、その生涯が称えられる偉人である。
