美術家として世界的に活躍する伊東昭義。伊東は「海中の色彩の発見者」と評され、海中世界を芸術に昇華させ『美術写真』という新ジャンルを確立させた。
本書は、伊東が、海中から地上世界へと焦点を転じた新たな作品集である。
タイトル『公園の天使たち』の公園とは東京都立「石神井公園」のこと。三宝寺池と石神井池の二つの池を中心とした風致公園で、武蔵野の面影を色濃く残す「自然公園」として知られている。
伊東は、1997年から愛犬と毎日欠かさず公園に散歩に出かけ、季節の移ろいを肌で感じその感動をカメラに収めていった。公園の全ての生きものたちは、けがれのない「天使たち」であった。
本書は、原発事故以前、気候変動以前の、人々の心にゆとりのあった時代の「美しく華やかで四季のあった時代の自然」を、芸術作品として記録した作品集である。
