1931年（昭和6年）10月、呉海軍工廠で二等巡洋艦最上は起工されました。1934年（昭和9年）3月に進水、
1939年（昭和14年）には主砲を50口径20.3cm連装砲塔５基に換装し、一等巡洋艦（重巡洋艦）になりました。太平洋戦争では各地を転戦しましたが、1944年（昭和19）年10月、フィリピンのレイテ沖海戦に参加し、スリガオ海峡で撃沈されています。
日本海軍ファンの方、お部屋の飾りに如何でしょう。額縁の大きさは約28×20cmです。
